Topigs Norsvin have 5 letters for the breed codes. Like the Danish breeding system it is always fathers breed in front. See example below:

  • T for Topigs Norsvin
  • The Second letter refers to fathers father
  • The Third letter refers to fathers mother
  • The Fourth letter refers to mothers father
  • The Fifth letter refers to mothers mother

If you started up as a Topigs Norsvin nucleus management and now inseminate old sows with other genetics, the sows must be registrated as "unknown race". These herds are called "InGene"-herds.

There are different constellations regarding to how come you are a InGene-herd and there are several breeding code possibilities. The possibilities are described below:  

ZigZag-herd: Starts with other genetic sows and are inseminated with Topigs Norsvin boars:




...Afterwards it changes between TLLZX and TZZLX.

As a nucleus management herd with ZigZag the TN70 animals are referred to as:

  • TLLZX a zigzag sow inseminated with Landrace father, Z-line mothers father and hybrid mothers mother
  • TZZLX a zigzag sow inseminated with Z-line father, Landrace mothers father and hybrid mothers mother


After a while a InGene herd only has TZZLX and TLLZX animals.


Landrace-herd: the herd has landrace nucleus management but are changing to Topigs Norsvin: 

...Now it is a "purebred" Landrace.
